Welcome to Surlingham.org.uk

Welcome to the Surlingham Village Website, a new and developing project for the people of Surlingham.

Only a mere seven miles from the centre of Norwich, Surlingham is relatively unkown; lying, as it does, in a huge horseshoe bend of the river Yare, few pass through the village on their way elsewhere.

Surlingham has seen changes over the last fifty years but my impression is that these have been limited compared with other villages within a similar radius of the city of Norwich. Those returning to the village after such an absence will still find their way around quite easily. The Church still stands out boldy, as it has always done, but the parson is one of a group of priests that serves eleven parishes and he no longer lives in the vicarage.

Two of the three public houses remain but the old public bars, which served the local community and attracted the wherryman off the river, have gone to make way for carpets and furnishings that the customer of the present-day demands...

About the Site

This website supports groups in Surlingham, providing a forum for interaction between village residents and information about the village and events happening within it.

The "groups" section provides a list of clubs, societies, and organisations in Surlingham with a link too a special page for each. Each group will be easily able to update their own page for themselves. It is hoped that continuous input from groups will encourage a dynamic and useful resource. If you're connected with a club that isn't listed and you'd like a web page on this site, then please contact us.

The Parish Plan page contains details of all the stages of the process we went through in the village - the questionnaire, results, and the action plan. You can also visit the Parish Council page to find out more about local issues.

The events calendar will be updated regularly and can be used to check what's on in the village. Take a look at the message board which includes sections on shared lifts, help wanted / needed and small ads.

We hope you'll enjoy using this site and would welcome any feedback.
