Art Club aims to provide a stimulating and creative venue for 5-10 year olds to enjoy art based activities. It has been running very successfully for the past six years. Art Club was started to offer a local program of art activities to develop childrens' imagination and artistic abilities. Each term the work produced is linked to a specific theme eg shape, pattern, inspired by an artist, Art from other cultures, the Sea, Animals etc. The focus of each project is on learning to look and observe and to develop confidence in using a variety of media and materials. Apart from drawing and painting we explore textiles- weaving, printing and dyeing, working with clay, plaster, sand, wire and mixed media, printing, collage and design. Examples are used from Art History, sometimes supported by poetry, storytelling, music or sound. A weekly certificate is given to the 'Artist of the Week' and there is the opportunity to loan the
Art Box. At the end of each academic term all the childrens' artwork is exhibited formally to celebrate their achievements with friends and family usually at St Mary's Church, Surlingham.
Sessions are charged half termly in advance.
Art Club is run by artist and fully qualified experienced teacher Sarah Jarrett.
